Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Tuesday, June 2, that a Bronx man was sentenced to 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter for bludgeoning his brother to death.

Clark said the defendant, Jayson Dargan, 43, of Concourse Village East, Bronx, was sentenced to 17 years in prison and five years post release supervision by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Alvin Yearwood. She said Dargan pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter on May 8.

“This defendant, in cold blood, killed his own brother as he slept,” Clark said. ‘This one senseless act has torn a family apart. With this guilty plea and sentence, justice has been served.”

According to the facts heard at the trial, sometime between Oct. 22, 2023 and Nov. 1, 2023, Dargan put a bowling ball inside a black garbage bag and struck the victim, Timothy Dargan, his 44-year-old brother, on the head multiple times, causing his death. According to at least one media report at the time, a loud argument preceded the assault, which reportedly took place on the 6th floor of Washington House Building at Concourse Village Apartments, where the victim was reportedly found dead in a trash bag in his home.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Janene McGraw under the supervision of Burim Namani, deputy chief of the homicide bureau, Christine Scaccia, chief of the homicide bureau, and under the overall supervision of James Brennan, deputy chief of the trial division and Theresa Gottlieb, chief of the trial division.

Clark thanked Trial Preparation Assistant Gregroy Gadsden and Homicide Advocate Jessica Perez for their assistance in the case, as well as NYPD Detectives Roberto Vargas of the 44th Precinct and Jonathan Burke of the Bronx north homicide squad for their work on the investigation.
