52nd Pct Community Council Ends Year in Festive Spirit

The following is a slightly extended version of the story that appears in our Jan. 8, 2026 print edition.

Deputy Inspector Chase Maneri, commanding officer of the 52nd Precinct, announced he would be moving on to a new, as yet unannounced, role during the final 52nd Precinct Community Council meeting of 2025, held Dec. 18 at Estrella Restaurant in Norwood.

Details of his replacement will be shared, once communicated.

 

At the meeting, Maneri, who was appointed to the role in December 2023, as reported, was awarded a plaque as a token of gratitude for his service to the community by council president, Brenda Caldwell-Paris.

Maneri confirmed that the 52nd Precinct continues to have one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the City and the highest in terms of jewelry thefts via mopeds.

He also confirmed that the discovery of the body of the woman found in December outside the New York Botanical Garden in Bedford Park was not being treated as suspicious..

During the meeting, the monthly Cop of the Month award was awarded to P.O. José Ortiz, who was unable to attend, with Maneri accepting the award on his behalf.

Resident Tobie Buford was honored for organizing a very successful toy drive ahead of the holiday season and for recently publishing a book. Meanwhile, there was stiff competition when it came to the ugly sweater contest.
