UPDATE Belmont: 2nd Man Arrested after Fatal Shooting of Man 21

Police said they’ve made another arrest following the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man in Belmont in September.

 

As reported, police said that on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at around 2 a.m., officers from the 48th Precinct found a 21-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head behind 4422 Third Avenue.

 

“EMS responded and transported the male to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased,” a police spokesperson said. “There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.”

 

They said the deceased was identified as Jontay Davis of Tremont, The Bronx. Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, they said Desean Edwards, 22, of Brooklyn was arrested on Sept. 11, at 6.30 p.m. in the confines of the 48th Precinct, which covers the Bronx neighborhoods of Belmont, East Tremont, and West Farms.

 

They said he was charged with murder and murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, on Wednesday, Nov. 19, police said they arrested Xavier Kearney, 23, from the Castle Hill section of The Bronx on Monday, Nov. 17. They said he was charged that night at 11.35 p.m. with murder and six counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

 

Both men arrested are presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.

 

As reported, police were also appealing to the public for help identifying a person wanted for an early morning rape in Belmont.
