The NYPD said a 26-year-old man has been arrested following a rape that occurred in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx earlier this month. Detectives had been asking for the public’s help identifying the person seen in the attached video and photo who they said was wanted in connection with the incident.

They said that on Saturday, Sept. 13, at around 4.05 a.m., the victim, a 25-year-old woman, was walking in the vicinity of East 212th Street and Paulding Avenue when an unidentified male approached the victim and engaged her in a conversation.

“The unidentified male individual then wrapped his arm around the victim, dragged her to the ground, and proceeded to forcibly rape her,” police said. “The unidentified individual then fled southbound towards Paulding Avenue. The victim was transported to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition.”

Police said the suspect was described as male, had a dark complexion, was around 25 to 30 years of age, was 5 feet, 8 inches tall, had a slim build, black hair, and was last seen wearing a blue jacket, a black, hoodie sweater under the jacket, black jogging pants, and black sneakers.

On Sept. 27, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police said Zion Exum, 26, of Brooklyn was arrested the same day at 11.50 a.m. in the confines of the 44th Precinct, which covers the Concourse neighborhood, Bronx Terminal Market, and Yankee Stadium. They said he was charged with rape. He is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.

As reported, an NYPD official from the special victims unit told Norwood News on Sept. 15 that the increase in year-to-date rape statistics citywide partially stems from an expanded legal definition of rape to include various forms of nonconsensual sexual conduct.
