Montefiore Pediatric Physician Wins $400,000 Hyundai Hope Scholar Grant to Further Childhood Cancer Research

Dr. Allison M. Martin, attending pediatric physician at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and assistant professor of pediatrics, microbiology and immunology at Morris Park’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine, was recently awarded a $400,000 Hyundai Hope Scholar Grant from Hyundai Hope on Wheels® (HHOW), Montefiore officials said. HHOW is a nonprofit organization committed to finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Honored during a ceremony that took place on n July 23, Montefiore officials said Martin, a physician in Norwood’s CHAM department of pediatric hematology, oncology, marrow and blood cell transplantation, was awarded the grant in recognition of her research contributions and efforts to improve outcomes for patients with pediatric brain and spinal cord tumors.

 

According to Montefiore officials, HHOW launched in 1998, and today, more than 850 Hyundai car dealers donate a portion of every vehicle purchase to the quest of ending childhood cancer.

They said that now in its 27th year, HHOW will donate $27million through childhood cancer research grants. They said Martin was one of the researchers selected among colleagues nationwide “who are pursuing critical research aimed at improving treatments and saving lives.”
