District Council 9 will be conducting a formal Painter, Decorator & Paperhanger apprentice recruitment drive beginning June 13 at the union’s training center in Long Island City, and will cover the New York City and Long Island regions. The drive will last from June 13 through June 26.

District Council 9 Finishing Trades Institute of New York officials said it offers apprentices on-the-job and in-classroom training to ensure every apprentice is prepared to tackle the complex building market. They said DC 9 apprenticeships offer New Yorkers a pathway to a stable career with family-sustaining wages and benefits.

They said the recruitment drive will take place over a ten-day period or until 750 applications are distributed, whichever happens first. Applications will be distributed in person on a first-come, first-served basis, at the District Council 9 Finishing Trades Institute of New York training facility.

“At District Council 9, we’re proud to continue building pathways to strong, union careers through our apprenticeship programs,” said Joseph Azzopardi, business manager/secretary treasurer. “These programs give New Yorkers the hands-on training and education they need to thrive in the trades. With our latest Painter, Decorator & Paperhanger recruitment, we’re excited to open the door to more hardworking individuals ready to learn a skill, earn a wage, and join the next generation of union workers.”

DC9 officials provided the following information about the drive:
