Organizers estimated that more than 25,000 people showed up to dance, play, eat and shop at the area’s biggest annual block party, the Jerome-Gun Hill Street Festival on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Various local artists performed on the two stages. There were free karate lessons, raffles, chess and domino competitions, face painting and some two dozen food and retail vendors. Tony Tone of the legendary hip-hop crew The Cold Crush Brothers ran a basketball contest and clinic.
There was also a special surprise appearance by hip-hop artist Rahzel (of The Roots crew), who lives nearby and provided all kinds of on-stage vocal fireworks after stumbling onto the event while on his way to buy groceries.
